MUSICAL

A program of folk music that spans Europe, Asia, and Africa

About the Show:

Sankofa African American Theatre Company will be featured in the West Shore Symphony Orchestra’s Continental Folk, which will present folk music from Africa, Europe, and Asia.

“The concert explores how folk songs reflect the life, culture, and soul of a civilization, moving from British folk-inspired repertoire to Chinese folk-song settings and finally to Fela Sowande's Nigerian symphonic voice,” says Jennifer Sacher Wiley, Music Director, West Shore Symphony.

Sankofa's participation is centered within Sowande's A Folk Symphony, where dramatic readings are interwoven in the middle of and between movements so that the musical and dramatic experience unfold organically. The readings were carefully shaped to deepen the audience's understanding of Nigerian history, culture, resilience, and hope.

The program will also include works by Ralph Vaughan Williams, Huang Ruo, and Jean Sibelius.

This special performance will be held at Trinity High School 3601 Simpson Ferry Rd, Camp Hill, PA, 17101
