Set in 1997 (400 years after Shakespeare wrote his first draft), Romeo & Juliet Class of ‘97 is a play about Juliet, a teenager from a socially-conscious, high-profile family in the public eye. She meets Romeo, who finds himself in a similar situation. She wants to fall in love, but she wants to do it on her terms. She must navigate her relationships with her family and be responsible for the decisions she makes and people she chooses. It’s not life or death: it’s living with the consequences.
