The time is 1971, and theatrical impresario, Dimitri Weissmann, hosts a reunion of ex-Follies performers in his crumbling theatre, setting the stage for a parade of brilliant pastiche numbers, including "Losing My Mind" and "I'm Still Here." Amid the reminiscing, two middle-aged couples confront some unpleasant truths about their past and present, coming face-to-face with the future.
Performed as a concert version, this production from Theatre Harrisburg and the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra strips away the traditional heavy scenery to focus on the raw emotional power of the score and the storytelling.
Follies in Concert is part of Theatre Harrisburg’s centennial celebration.
Sankofa African American Theatre Company will be featured in the West Shore Symphony Orchestra’s Continental Folk, which will present folk music from Africa, Europe, and Asia.
“The concert explores how folk songs reflect the life, culture, and soul of a civilization, moving from British folk-inspired repertoire to Chinese folk-song settings and finally to Fela Sowande's Nigerian symphonic voice,” says Jennifer Sacher Wiley, Music Director, West Shore Symphony.
