by William Shakespeare

Presented by Gamut’s Stage Door Series Ensemble

ABOUT THE SHOW

Edward III, published anonymously in 1596, has become increasingly accepted by scholars as written (at least in part) by William Shakespeare. In this play, King Edward finds himself besieged on two fronts: to the south, France is disputing his claim to the throne, and in the north, the Scots are advancing on a castle held by the young, beautiful Countess of Salisbury, wife of the Earl of Salisbury.

After driving back the Scottish army, Edward falls passionately in love with the countess and attempts to bed her. When he finally accepts that her no means no, he sets off to subdue France instead, rather more successfully.
