COMEDY
by Oscar Wilde
About the Show:
The Importance of Being Earnest (1895) is a farcical comedy by Oscar Wilde about two wealthy men, Jack Worthing and Algernon Moncrieff, who create false personas ("Ernest") to escape social obligations and woo their respective love interests, Gwendolen and Cecily. Through witty dialogue and chaotic misunderstandings, the play satirizes Victorian social hypocrisy, marriage, and morality. It concludes with the revelation that Jack is actually Algernon's brother, named Ernest, allowing both couples to marry.
