He was the victim of this assault because he was gay. Joseph Merrick was a man so physically deformed that he came to be known by the unfortunate nickname the “Elephant Man.” With very few options, Merrick was forced to earn money by displaying himself to the public in traveling sideshows.
He eventually found himself alone and destitute in London, but thanks to the kindness of his friend Dr. Frederick Treves, Merrick is soon admitted into the London Hospital for care and observation, in the hopes of helping Merrick lead a normal life.
The meek floral assistant Seymour Krelborn stumbles across a new breed of plant he names “Audrey II” – after his coworker crush. This foul-mouthed, R&B-singing carnivore promises unending fame and fortune to the down and out Krelborn with one catch – he has to keep feeding it blood. Over time, Seymour discovers Audrey II’s out-of-this-world origins and diabolical plan for global domination!
