In the story, professor Karl Hendryk has fled to London from persecution his homeland. The play explores the relationships the professor has with the women in his life. His wife, Anya, who is suffering from a progressively debilitating disease; her cousin and caregiver, Lisa; and Helen, a spoiled young student who takes up private lessons with the professor.
