Sidney Bruhl, a once-successful writer of Broadway mysteries, has suffered a series of flops. By twist of fate, one of his students (Clifford), from a seminar he is teaching, submitted an original script that is even better than what Sidney could write.
He plots with his wife, Myra, to collaborate with the student and take advantage of the situation and possibly claim it as his own work, but Clifford has some plot twists of his own in mind.
